Our updated version is going to pretty much take the gameplay that made the original Jones in the Fast Lane so much fun and add to it a variety of new features including updated maps and much more in depth gameplay. Some possible features include -
-marriage to other characters (maybe, this one isn't definite yet..) -a variety of new jobs and locations, each with their own unique activities -a more in depth character creation system -more events -more items -updated graphics -a new system that allows you to move up to bigger and better cities if you have the money, each with unique locations and jobs -more reasons to continue playing after you have the best job (which oh by the way will take considerably more effort) -support for expansion packs and add-ons
it will basically be Jones in the Fast Lane times 10, with more stuff to do, more stuff to buy, just plain more of everything. Now if anyone is interested in helping, contact either me or pyroman as we need all the help we can get, especially with the graphics and audio. otherwise, just kinda sit back and know that there might be a newer and better version of jones in the fast lane coming out some time in the (hopefully) not too distant future of time and space

Quoted From Wikipedia
One could say this is a precursor to the famous The Sims game. Like The Sims, one might derive some entertainment value from seeing their character crash and burn by forgetting to buy clothing, which results in the character appearing naked (save a barrel, a newspaper or a blackened bar). Compared with the aforementioned Maxis release, this game lacks social interaction, although unlike The Sims, it offers the possibility of playing against other humans in hot seat fashion or an AI opponent known as Jones. The AI is playable on three levels. On the easiest level, Jones may sometimes make very poor decisions. On the hardest setting, Jones has a slight handicap in his favour, but this handicap is easily overcome by experienced players.

Quick comment: My suggestion to you guys would be, as a webmaster of 2 Sierra communities (as in, someone who's seen fangames come and go like the wind), to focus first on getting a team together. THEN, focus on just remaking the original game- no extras (as in, updated graphics, the old music in digital format, hell, I'd even help you if you'd take this suggestion on board). If that ever gets realised, THEN focus on all this new stuff you guys want to make happen. I don't mean to sound patronising, but I've seen a hell of a lot of fangame projects never see the light of day. It's probably about a 5% success rate. we have already begun programming it, but it is going slow since this our first big game and we are still in a planning state on the game. Our only issues are music but I think Spikey may be able to help us and our we have only one graphic artist on the team making new screens so we have to wait to make exponential progress.
As I think through this it is a bit more complicated then I thought but I know I'll finish it so my success rate is a bit higher than 5% in my head but hopefully it will all pull through.
I like that name "Jones Back in the Fast Lane" its catchy

You guys are amazing! Please do not give up! Jones in the Fastlane has got to be one of my favorite games of all time! Please press on! I just finished playing a buggy, junky, abandonware version of this game and was searching for a possible updated game.
I have no programming ability but I'd love it if you guys could keep me updated on the progress or if you need anything else (i don't know what that could be...)
e-mail me! deselma@bethelcollege.edu
You are my heroes!

"Jones" as we'd call it was a brilliant mix of interactive reality, strategy, satyrical humour, catchy music, and a good laugh with your friends. My brother and I have always played it with great pleasure. For a long time I've thought it would be nice to have a similar game with more dimensions to it: more parameters so to speak to tune and tweak, more possible lanes to ride, more variety of paths to take.
Would it be an idea to call out for people with skills to offer their help with this project? I'm convinced there are many fans out there that are willing and able to contribute.

Sounds like a good plan DrDoomMan. My only suggestion is online multiplayer (maybe up to 4 players) everything you said sounds great I really hope this remake gets made.

Maybe go to a car yard to buy faster cars ( which will increase your turn timer)
